- A ground screw foundation is from €90 to €110 a m² (Loghouse.ie).
- Power from the house is from €15 a metre of cable (Loghouse.ie), and it has to be done by a Registered Electrical Contractor (CRU).
- Avant Money's national guide gives €13,500 to €17,500 for a medium room, 4 m × 4 m to 5 m × 5 m.

Power and internet
Power, heat and broadband
- Power: an armoured cable from the house's fuse board, from €15 a metre (Loghouse.ie). East Coast Carpentry quotes it separately from the room. Electrical work in your home must be done by a Registered Electrical Contractor, who gives you a completion certificate (CRU).
- Broadband: a data cable run in the same trench as the power, or a mesh Wi-Fi point. Ask for the duct to go in when the trench is open.
- Heat: an electric panel heater is the usual. East Coast Carpentry's rooms include one.
- Light: put the desk side-on to the window, so the screen isn't facing the glass.

A garden office and the rules
A garden office used by the household fits Class 3 if it's under the size limits: 30 m² for all sheds and garden structures together, 25 m² of garden left, 3 m high with a flat roof (S.I. 338 of 2026). Class 3 covers use incidental to the enjoyment of the house. Clients or staff coming and going is a different use; ask Wicklow County Council first.
